Coeburn Bypass

Just wanted to know if anyone can remember when construction on the Coeburn Bypass started.

Actually it was in the 60's it just didn't get finished till the mid 90's. I do know I was the "official" first person to drive on it. My dad and I drove all the political figures that did the ribon cutting ceremony across it. I was in a 196? Chevy and he was driving a new one to signify the years it was started and finished.
